<Graz> oh, are you off, louise?
<Graz> oh.
<Graz> yes u are.
<V> HI W
<Graz> Hi Will.
<Capped_Dan> Hi Will, got a new publisher yet??
<MH> louis is one of my ppls
<V> How wasa London
<akira> Hi WillH
<WillH> Hi everyone.
<MH> but he isnt one of the travellers, hehe
<V> dear god,I have lapsed into italian
<MH> hi willh!
<WillH> London "wasa" a bit of a mixed blessing
<Capped_Dan> Do tell more.
<WillH> The event was more like a convention with the speakers talking from a stage (ie no access to them). Bummer!). So I didn't come back with a deal :((
<V> ohh thats a shame
<WillH> BUT... I did come back armed to the teeth with information.
<MH> ok, Graz and WillH ... we just talked about the Date. is it ok for you, to do the meeting at a Weekend (SAT/SUN)?
<WillH> I was astonished to find that a few bits of generally received wisdom were not right.
<V> brb
<MH> kk V
<WillH> I had been languishing under the misapprehension that I had to submit proposals to publishers and agents one at a time and wait months for a reply. Not so, it seems.
<Graz> MH. Yes, Weekend. SAT& SUN. Praps Fri, if evryone else does Fri.
<Capped_Dan> Well the main meet has to be on saturday. I'll fly in on friday and back on sunday and the times of the flights are unknown at this moment.
<WillH> So what's the date of the Meet, then?
<MH> thats what we thinking too, graz and dan. we start our travel at FRI evening and will arrive at nighttimes in the UKs.
<MH> no fixed Date yet, WillH
<Graz> So you can submit as many ideas in one go? With a precis for each I suppose?
<MH> we all here love the idea about the campingidea :-)
<WillH> Submissions: I was getting depressed that publishers would take months to say no, and that it would take years before someone says yes. Now I find you can send to four or five at a time.
<WillH> so long as you let them know you've done that.
<WillH> Another thing I learned is that I should be targeting agents rather than publishers, which is what I shall now do.
<Graz> You mean the same submission to different agents, or different submissions to the same agent?
<WillH> I'll bposting a big review of the event on my blog later this week.
<WillH> The same submission to different agents.
<WillH> Simon Trewin admits that he often decides on the strength of the opening paragraph. So make your first paragraph a damn good one, Graz!
<Graz> Brian Aldiss said that I'd have no trouble getting an agent. Gulp. Im too scared to try now!
<WillH> Did he really? Has he read your work?
<Graz> I know. The first line is the hardest. I never can settle on the 1st line.
<Graz> Yes Will. Apparently he loved my sci-fi and horror fantasy.
<WillH> Something else I learned was that most novelists never give up their day job, it's only the lucky few like JK Rowling.
<Graz> She deserves it tho. Her writing is near on perfect.
<Graz> You deserve it to Will!
<WillH> I heard a story about one writer who reads all the titles on the New York Times bestseller list, steals all the best ideas, and puts them in his next book!!! He's a best seller himself.
<Graz> What else did you learn from it Will?
<Graz> lol, good idea!
<Graz> gonna put the kettle on... back in a mo.
<WillH> There's a difference between the novelist who wants to tell a story/explore his view of the world and the genre writer who just mimics whatever is popular. The latter is where the money is.
<WillH> I would say Russell T Davies is a genre writer. Most of his Doctor Who plot ideas have been plundered from other authors. And then he gets a BAFTA for them.
<Graz> True Will, but I loved Gridlock!
** Madame has joined the chatroom **
<WillH> Anyway, Tripods. I've been thinking about the circus children running through the woods at night, and Ken's music - during a boring meeting at work, admittedly!
<Madame> Good evening!
<WillH> Hello Madam Vichot.
<akira> Hi Madame
<Graz> Tis now one of my all-time-favorites, next to Ark in Sace et all.
<Graz> Hi M Vichot.
<MH> hi madame
<WillH> Yes, I did enjoy Gridlock. Very claustrophobic.
<Capped_Dan> Hi Madame.
<Graz> Love the depth of the undercity. Awe inspiring.
<V> ok back
<MH> wb V
<V> sorry twas a phone call
<Graz> hi V.
<Capped_Dan> Hey Sven it's not Madame Australia no? :)
<WillH> I'm popping over to ASDA later to see if they've got Doctor Who: Survival in. Can't wait for that one.
<MH> no, hehe
<Graz> ooh, kettles whistling!
<Capped_Dan> lol
<MH> shes the other lady;-)
<Capped_Dan> I need another beer...
<Graz> cat flap. Wish theyd kept the title.
<WillH> Have one for me, Dan.
<Madame> me, too!
<WillH> The cat people in the new series make the cheetah people look rubbish. But they were good for the time.
<Madame> Got your book yesterday, Will! :-)
<Capped_Dan> I only have the one left...
<Madame> You are a gentleman, Dan, aren´t you? Pass it over to me!
<Capped_Dan> OK I'll fax it over. :)
<WillH> I have often thought that if some of the ideas in the Sylvester McCoy era were to have a decent budget, they wouldn't look out of place in the current series.
<Madame> mhhh, tasts a little... flat.
<Madame>;-)
<WillH> Great stuff, Madam. Which book? The Feeling's Unmutual or Anne Droyd?
<Capped_Dan> Well for 99 cent what do you expect?;)
<Madame> Well, you only advertised Anne Droyd to me,yet.
<Madame> funnish beer?
<Capped_Dan> Very funny yep.
<Madame> argh! FINNISH beer
<Capped_Dan> :)
<Capped_Dan> Yes, Aura.
<Madame> Bring one to Brighton!
<MH> we will bring some german beer to enland;-)
<WillH> Well, I hope you enjoy Anne Droyd then. It is quite simply written (because that's how I like books to be, easy to read), so you shouldn't have much a problem with the English.
<Graz> The McCoy era is not too far removed from what we are enjoying now. I'd love to see battlefield as intended, with Giant Arthurian robots!
<Capped_Dan> Madame; http://material.talentum.com/talentum_com_images/1049572.jpg
** Madame has left the chatroom **
<Graz> oh, that reminds me.... www.ageofreason.co.uk
<Capped_Dan> Did that shock her?
<WillH> That episode from last year, Fear Her, was *very* similar to Survival in tone, I thought.
<Graz> My sisters new band.
<akira> no i dont think so
** Madame has joined the chatroom **
<WillH> What's your sister's new band? The Age of Reason?
<Madame> Gee, the beer must be strong! kicked me out of the Chatroom!!!
<Capped_Dan> hehe
<Graz> Not as good as Survival, but yes, the feeling of close community being picked away at is the same. Almost identical.
<Graz> Yes Will. Shes the Bass player!
<Madame> But you are right, Dan, better bring a sixpack than just one bottle...
<Capped_Dan> The bringer of lady balls.
<Graz> :D
<WillH> I didn't care too much for Fear Her, but the street had the same atmosphere about it.
<WillH> And over acting Londoners!
<Graz> Chloe Webster? **** alien!
<Graz> ****e
<WillH> That old lady. Cor blimey Guv.
<Graz> lol
<WillH> The extras on Survival discuss why the series ended and look at what was planned should it have continued.
<Graz> But, heck. Spoiler ALERT!!!! MACRA! Blimey!
<WillH> THAT'S what I want to see the most.
<WillH> Oh yeah, the Macra. That was a nice surprise.
<WillH> And "you are not the only one"... I wonder who that might be referring to...?
<Graz> I was looking at the extended who series website. Some of the proposals for Amblin's Who were awful.
<MH> madame ... also so wie es aussieht sind hier alle dafür, das das treffen an einem SA ist, mit anreise am FR und abreise am SO. auch das camping scheint alle anzusprechen. allen fehlt nur noch der
<MH> fixe termin
<WillH> Madame, will you review Anne Droyd on the German Amazon after you have read it?
<MH> (sorry for the german text. just updated madame, about the essencial stuff what we chatted about the meeting sofar)
<Madame> Thanx, MH
<Capped_Dan> I just did a friend request to anniepunk at myspace. :)
<Madame> Of course I will write an review!
<V> well sorry guys, but i am going to have to leave early
<V> so I shall see yah next week...
<V> take care
<Graz> Dieses Begegnung ist gehend nach sein hinreißend!
** V has left the chatroom **
<MH> cu next week V!
<Capped_Dan> Take care V!
<Graz> oh, bye V!
<Madame> see you then, V!
<WillH> Nice to see you anyway V
<MH> that was "lost in translation" graz, hehe
<Capped_Dan> Got that Graz?
<Madame> Oha! da spricht jemand deutsch? graz?
<Capped_Dan> Ich habe ein bratwurst in mein lederhosen.
<Madame> But I really would like to have the other book, too, WillH!
<Madame> Sounded very interesting
<MH> "Sauerkraut", dan, hehe
<Graz> hehe!
<akira> lol
<WillH> The other book is my life story
<Graz> lol#
<Capped_Dan> Graz; I just did a friend request to anniepunk at myspace. :)
<Graz> Das ist einen master language, ja?
<Madame> @ Will, I thought so.
<Graz> cool, Dan!
<Capped_Dan> very
<WillH> By the way, guys, I've had two offers to remix my song. One from our own Darryl Sloan.
<Madame> @Graz & Dan, as soon as I am grown up, I will probably understand what you both are talking about...;-)
<WillH> Darryl is going to add a few other instruments (probably guitars) and put my voice through a vocoder to strengthen the sound of my voice.
<Graz> Madame Vichot ist ein Schönheit, to be sure.
<Graz> Sounds great Will. I still like the original tho!
<Madame> @ graz, I think I better saty home. Don´t want to dissapoint you.;-)
<Graz> Ohh, no way! You're coming to the meet and thats final!
<Madame> Ok. *scared*
<Graz> :)
<Madame> Somehow this is going a wrong way...;-)
<Graz> lol.
<MH> did we allready announced, we a rebuilding our websites and forums into multilingual?
<Graz> nice. That'll be good.
<MH> but we need some help from you guys over there...
<Graz> My german is quite awful (no, really?!) but I try.
<WillH> My German is none existent.
<Madame> Oh! And I will open up the "pink parrot"! Just for you guys! So you have to stop by and visit!
<Graz> Achtung, Schnell! Or something like that.
<WillH> Glad you still like the original, Graz.
<Madame> It´s all in English! (sort of...)
<MH> this isnt wolfenstein, graz, hehe
<WillH> Yeah, that's my limit on German too!!!
<Graz> lol. Great game tho.
<MH> at the beginning, we need you guys, to join our forums and chat along in the new english forums
<Graz> OOOhhh Pink Parrot. Ive always wanted to pop in and have a bit of a boogie! Cool.
<MH> in the next weeks, we will rebuild the WHOLE website into english and german.
<WillH> I showed the Tripods documentary to a friend while down in Buckingham I introduced him to the series last year). He was absolutely livid when it came to the bit where they discussed the series' cancel
<Madame> Fine! Hope to see you at the grand opening!;-)
<Capped_Dan> Sounds cool Sven.
<WillH> the series' cancellation
<WillH> I get angry every time I contemplate it!
<MH> you all will notice, using a forum is much easier and overviewable then the Y-Group
<WillH> The BBC of the 1980s were idiots.
<Graz> Zum Toiful, Ive gotta go now guys n gals.
<WillH> Goodnight Graz.
<Graz> soz. Keep on chattin.
<MH> gn8 graz
<Graz> Nighty night.

Hello everyone,
At 3:00 this afternoon, I thought it'd be a good idea to get started
on the minutes and post `em up early for a change. So I switched on
the laptop to copy the relevant files across, but then, oh no, I
become ensnared by the wonders of the internet and the day just
flies by! So here I am again, on the cusp of night, just managing
to scribble all the goodness down before sleep takes me. I didn't
do myself any favours leaving it so late, as once again, we had
quite a chat on our hands.
Capped Dan, Louis de Fu, V, MH, Will H, Madame Vichot, Graz
Once more, the excited chantings about the Freemen meeting could be
heard all over cyberspace last night. The Germans are mobilising
their forces as we speak, and hopes are high that they will have
made camp in England before the snow sets in.
Will Hadcroft gave us a run-down on the events in the London book
convention, and got us all inspired to pick up our quills again.
Will H also offered his opinions on Russell T D's style of writing,
and pretty much hit the nail on the head regarding the recent
treatment of Who. However much we chastise some of his episodes,
we certainly gave the thumbs up to the latest one, `Gridlock.'
Personally I really, really (really) loved it, so much so, that it
is currently vying for my, `most favoritest episode of all time'
award. Will it knock, `Ark in Space' or `Seeds of Death' off its
perch? Time will tell.
We also gave the, `once over' to Sylvester McCoy and Chloe Webber,
finding a few similarities with `Survival' and `Fear her.'
Yes, sorry, there wasn't much Tripods chat going on was there?!
Still, we did find out about Darryl Sloan's up-coming re-mix of
Will's song, and also learn the exciting news of Sven's site
going, `Multi-lingual!' Now that is a cool thing!
Well, that's about it f'now. I fancy nipping down to The Pink
Parrot, for a bit of a boogie with the boys. C'ya later.Code: Alles auswählen
Greetings Freemen.
Not a very busy week for us Freemen this week but even so, those activities that HAVE
taken place have been quality.
Freeman Craig Rreilly (aka Prizedmind87) has been busy with a labour of love and has
shared with us two wonderful tracks from series 1 that he has lifted from the DVD and has
attempted to eliminate action sounds from. The tracks can be heard by going to our "Files"
section and clicking on "The Forest Journey" and "The Tournament".
We have two new members this week who bring our numbers up to 324. Welcome to Maul
Mason and "welcome back" to Methox_343.
My usual thanks go to Graz for the minutes of Wednesday's Chat Room. It seems that
Doctor Who was the main topic keeping the chatters occupied this week. Due to work
commitments I have missed a couple of episodes from this new series, but I'm not too
worried as I usually purchase the DVDs when they are released anyway.
Vicky has pointed out that a few of our postings seem to be disappearing.
I have discovered that the Yahoo system is identifying a number of group postings as
"Spam" and is filing them in our Moderator's file for my approval. Opportunities to check
such files are becoming rather scarce for me at the moment, but I try to keep on top of
them as best I can. We currently have no postings that require my approval so you
SHOULD have received everything to date. (Vertually ALL of my own postings end up being
identified as spam by the system!!!)
Please, may I ask that no more private e-mails are sent to me regarding the Summer
meeting? I am being inundated with requests for a date. This matter is in hand, but I am
running a business and am in great demand at the moment (though I wish the bank
balance reflected this)! All this is doing is causing me stress. I promise that all of your
comments are being noted and will be acted on accordingly.
As a camp site has been requested, I am currently trying to find one that would be
accessable. I have then decided that the next move would be to find a venue that would
gladly allow our party to take over some of their bar space and that is not too far from the
camp site. Thus far I have only been looking at possible venues.
The problems I am meeting with in this respect is that due to many of us holding down
jobs, we require a weekend date. The venues I have spoken to about this are extremely
reluctant to grant this wish due to it being a summer month and the risk to their business
we would present. (despite the fact we would be putting money across their bar).
Ideally I am looking for a room that we can have masked off from the general punters so
that the little surprise I am planning is at no risk. (A great deal of money is being spent in
order to achieve this, and the insured value of the surprise is scary).
The venue I initially approached took onboard my requirements completely and were able
to assure me that no risk would come to anything we wanted to display, but AGAIN they
stipulated that it would HAVE to be a week day as Fridays and weekends were definately
not possible.
The only suitable option that has thus presented itself is a hotel that would hire us a
function room...with no bar! (Oh, and a church hall)!!! Neither of these would mind us
using their premesis at a weekend, but we would feel completely isolated! (and dry)!
Well, that's the story so far!
All that is left for me to do this week is to wish you all a lovely weekend.
Best wishes,
ADRIANCode: Alles auswählen
Same goes for myself considering I will fly in on a friday
afternoon/evening. And the german van will arrive in the UK very late
on friday. So for us foreigners it's saturday or bust...
DanielCode: Alles auswählen
OK,well I can understand why publicans are iffy about
a weekend date...but back to the church hall venue
idea, are there any which would maybe happy for us to
bring along,a picnic, which included some beers or
whatever poison suits?
If the surprise is worth a lot, then that quite
obviously needs to be looked after.so maybe for the
surprise, which could be Sat afternoon or some other
time over the weekend...perhaps a hall is an option
worth exploring.
>From the last meet,it was annoying to have general pub
noise and footie cheering going on,so something
quieter would be better? What do the masses think?
even better perhaps a church hall with a smidge of
garden we could bbq on lol.
I should point out here, that menfolk BBQ best of all
lol.
VCode: Alles auswählen
Thankyou Vicky. If other members are in favour of
this, then I shall persue this avenue. In fact, I have
a particular venue in mind which would meet these
requirements exactly.
ADRIAN
